Elder Justice Care Management

Guidance Carolina has been a leader in providing person-centered care to vulnerable adults for more than 40 years. As a founding partner of the Guilford County Family Justice Center’s (FJC) Elder Justice Committee, Guidance Carolina has a long history of developing and sustaining innovative solutions to support vulnerable adults. We are champions of the need for enhancing our community’s collaborative response to elder abuse, as these cases are on the rapid rise.

In 2021, in partnership with the FJC, Guidance Carolina was awarded a grant through the Governor’s Crime Commission to provide person-centered Elder Justice Care Management services, allowing underserved victims of elder abuse-related crime access to specialized case management services to provide life-saving resources and to decrease the chances of revictimization. Elder Justice Care Management services may include trauma-informed direct support, counseling, advocacy, and brokering of services designed to enhance the problem-solving and coping capacities of clients in need of intervention.

Guidance Carolina envisions a community where older people and those with disabilities can live their lives to the fullest and live free from abuse and neglect. This expanded partnership with the FJC and Guidance Carolina will further our shared mission to create a safer community for all.

Elder Abuse Facts & Statistics

Elder abuse includes physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, financial exploitation, neglect, and abandonment.
Approximately one in 10 Americans aged 60+ have experienced some form of elder abuse.
Up to five million older Americans are abused every year, and the annual loss by victims of financial abuse is estimated to be at least $36.5 billion.
